New Music

One Jack Move. It is not simply a band, more so, an idea of what music should be about and how it is presented to the world. In an age of easy access to digital content, artists are exploring new ways to present their ideas and musical concepts. One Jack Move (literally meaning "to steal") has acknowledged the fact that people like to download music because it is easy and convenient. Why limit access to content? Why not mow a new path and present music to consumers on their terms? With this concept in mind, One Jack Move was formed.

Established in 2006 by Dom Pucci and Kevin Hanley, One Jack Move started out as just a few guys coming together to make music and form a band. Since then, it has evolved into the independently funded original music project of Singer/Producer Dom Pucci.

Dom (vox & guitar) and Kev (bass), along with Joe Meagher (congas) and Bryan Ribas (dj, tech) started jamming together in the fall of 2005. After a winter of fun and after Kevin and Bryan had finished producing a dub album under the moniker "The Pirates," they felt it was time to put something together and start performing. Joe had been working at a place called Dee-Man's in their hometown of Naugatuck, CT, that he thought they could play at. So with little knowledge of performing as a band live, they dove in. The first show was successful in drawing a crowd friends and family, and also successful in showing them what was needed to grow as artists and performers.

In two months time, One Jack Move enlisted the services of then drummer and producer Michael Ostuni, and lead guitarist Matt Paradisi. This was a key moment for Dom & Kevin. After parting ways with Joe Meagher, though remaining close friends, the band now started branching out and started booking shows around town and to other parts of the state. A big hit at Uconn's Ted's Bar, the group was having a lot of fun and playing constantly.

In the fall of 2006, reality set in. Mike had been signed to an independent label, Riker Hill Records with his group Craving Lucy. It was always understood that while Mike would lend his services to OJM, his main priority was playing with Craving Lucy. Now that they had been signed to a label, it was time for CL to record a full-length album. This time off lead Dom to dig into writing more original material. Once Mike returned from recording at Long View Farms in Mass, he set out to produce a 3 song demo for Dom & Kev, who had parted ways with Matt Paradisi that fall.

What started as a 3 song demo quickly turned into a 6 track EP entitled Daybreak EP. Over the course of the next year, little by little, the CD was produced. In the winter of 2008, Daybreak was released.

Knowing that they would need to find a new drummer and lead guitarist, Dom & Kev were reached out to Derby, CT natives Adam Cirillo (drums) & Carl Dzienkiewicz (lead guitar). One audition later, One Jack Move was now a 4 piece again. Over the course of 2 years, Dom, Kevin, Adam & Carl would play every weekend while the members were going to school. This was an exciting time for the budding group. Touring on the strength of Daybreak EP and new material, they would play all around New England. Reaching the finals in the Mohegan Sun and Red Door Battle of the Bands. Impressing fans wherever they played. After breaking through at the Mount Snow Summer Brew Fest, One Jack Move started to gain a following.

So, in the summer of 2008, the group decided it was time to record their next album. Enter Scott White of Whitehouse Studios in Shelton, CT. Scott agreed to produce an original EP. Little did he know what started out as a 3 song EP would turn into a 14 track full length 3 years later.

As sometimes happens with bands, creative differences and personal maturation processes started taking its toll on the group. A decision needed to be made. So in the winter of 08/09, the guys decided to call it quits writing together. Acknowledging all the fun they had been having playing cover gigs, they decided to keep playing together live, but they would cease to write together.

So with 3 songs recorded, Dom & Kevin were left with a dilemma. What to do next? Dom & Kev decided to keep writing and to find a new drummer at least. As luck would have it, a chance encounter with a drummer named Adam Beliveau, who was ending his session with Scott White when Dom walked in to his, offered a chance to start a new path.

Root 8 was formed. The 3 piece immediately started writing together and were really enjoying the process. They were writing quality material and playing a lot of shows. In the summer of '10 Adam was to graduate from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. Being a Massachusetts native, he was presented with a choice. Move back home or stick around and move in with the band?

So in the summer of 2010, Root 8 decided to rent a house in Milford, CT. They were filling out their live set and becoming tight as a band. Then, in the fall of '10, as quickly as they had formed, for personal reasons, the 3 had split.

Now Dom was presented with a question that many artists must ask themselves: What do I do from here?

Well, the question was simple, play music and keep writing. Over the past 3 years, Dom had been working with Scott to produce a full length album with a combination of material he wrote himself and with Carl, Adam C, Adam B and Kevin. After a lot of soul searching and discussions with family, friends and his former band mates, Dom decided to finish the album. After moving back home and building a studio of his own, Dom fell in love with the recording process all over again, this time, as a producer.

It took 3 years and help from several different musicians, but One Jack Move - Asphalt Ocean is finally released. For Dom, it is the closing of one chapter, and the start of a new. What will become of One Jack Move as a live act? Well, only time will tell. You can be sure of one thing, all those involved with One Jack Move will never stop playing. Over the next few months, One Jack Move will start production on a new album of original material from Root 8. Carl, Adam C, Adam B and Kevin have enlisted the services of Dan Albertson (vox) and Mike DePascale (vox, harmonica) for two new groups, Shots fired (reggae covers) and Paper Street (original blues, rock, hiphop). Dom will be producing songs for both groups in his studio in Naugatuck, CT, along with the Root 8 tracks.

A whole lot more is on the way from the One Jack Move family of artists. That much is sure.
